Reaching Out to Those in Need: TMS’s CAREspondent Team Triples Charitable Donations

As is becoming an annual tradition, this holiday season, TMS’s CAREspondent group was pleased to continue its partnership with Family Reach — a national non-profit dedicated to alleviating the financial burden to cancer patients. The CAREspondent team redoubled, and then retripled its efforts to help offset mortgage payments for those in need.

“This program has been a huge success,” said TMS President Ali Vafai. “It was a great way for us to partner with our clients during the holidays and help raise money together for a cause that is important to our category.”

For every partner signup, TMS pledged to donate $500 toward Family Reach. In total, the CAREspondent group and its partners raised more than $18,000 for Family Reach — three times as much as last year.

“We’re thankful to our clients and the partnership of Family Reach to give every family a fair shot at getting to the other side of cancer,” Vafai added.

According to the nonprofit, one in three families are unable to afford their basic needs because of a pediatric cancer diagnosis, and 73% of adult patients will experience some form of cancer-related financial burden. These families often find themselves struggling with their daily living expenses, including groceries, utilities, and their mortgage payments — sometimes having to choose between paying their bills or paying for treatment.

This is where Family Reach steps in to help, partnering with oncology social workers at more than 300 institutions nationwide who use the nonprofit’s programs to meet the financial needs of their patients.

TMS is very pleased to have attracted new correspondent partners and is tremendously appreciative for the overwhelming enthusiasm toward helping make a difference in the lives of families in need. This year was a monumental step forward from last year — here’s to keeping it up in 2021.
